Efenseman Scott Harrington has re-signed using the Columbus Blue Jackets on a three-year deal that runs through the 2021-22 season.
Harrington, who had been a restricted free agent, played in 73 games with the Blue Jackets last season and had 2 goals and a career-best 15 assists.
«Scott Harrington is a very smart, dependable defenseman who made great strides to be a regular contributor on our blueline last year,» said Jarmo Kekalainen, the team’s general manager.
«He works really hard and has continued to improve steadily over the previous 3 seasons. Scott has revealed himself to be an excellent leader who gets the respect of his coaches and teammates and we look forward to his continuing contributions to our club.»
Harrington, 26, was originally a second-round draft pick by the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2011. He played in 10 games with the Penguins at 2014-15 and 15 together with the Toronto Maple Leafs the next season before being acquired by the Blue Jackets in a trade.
He played parts of the previous two seasons in Columbus before becoming a routine at the 2018-19 season.
Details of the deal were undisclosed, but reports pegged it as being worth an yearly average value of $1.633 million per year.
