Daniel Ricciardo reserved special praise for Renault’s engine department following heading the team’s best result since their full yield to F1 at Monza.
Ricciardo claimed his highest finish since joining the group whilst Nico Hulkenberg matched his best finish for Renault after an Italian GP weekend where their automobile consistently ran at the top with fifth.
When Fernando Alonso won the race and Nelson Piquet Jr finished fourth, the outcome represented the highest two-car finish for a functions Renault squad since the 2008 Western GP.
Ricciardo, who ran Renault electricity prior to joining the Enstone team at the onset of the calendar year, stated the often-criticised engine performance of the manufacturer especially deserved the achievement.
“Obviously I am happy for the entire group, but I want to provide a special shout out to the boys at Viry constructing the motors,” explained Ricciardo to Sky Sports F1’s Karun Chandhok.
“To get the best group outcome, here in Monza on a power circuit, since 2008 is a real statement. They copped a great deal of grief and they’ve made some big gains this season. This one is for these.”
The big haul from Monza can also function to kickstart up what then was an season. Renault have proceeded into fifth place in the Constructors’ Championship and closed to within 18 points of McLaren.
“Because Canada we had not got the maximum result from it,” said Ricciardo, who stopped a three-race run without issues.
“I really believe we had been a fourth-placed car today. Seb (Vettel) gave us a small help, but once we were in fourth I feel we had that pace.”
Asked if they are now able to maintain such a level of performance, Ricciardo responded:”I really wish we can and hope we can.
“We are coming around different circuits – high-downforce Singapore, street circuit, bumpy – but even though this can be Monza and it’s exceptional and you take all of the wing off, I certainly think there’s something we could nevertheless learn from that.”
Team boss Cyril Abiteboul explained the weekend as”a demonstration following Montreal and Spa the obvious improvement of the group and specifically on the power unit side that has been so openly criticised in the past”.
“It is a demonstration that everything is so fluid with an aggressive package,” added the Frenchman. “It is also an invitation to repeat these kinds of feelings, if our season has been far from a smooth ride so far. Our drivers have shown what they could do using a competitive vehicle.”
