Spain, late 40s. Julia leaves Madrid, a victim of a deep depression when her boyfriend and lover, José Miguel, a prominent painter opposed to the regime, was imprisoned. Julia is the only daughter of a wealthy family that owns a bank, she’s a woman of great culture, educated in Switzerland and England, graduated in Philosophy and Literature, and wants to be a writer.
When we meet her, she drives her car to the small Asturian village of Cerralbos del Sella. The big family house is there- “Llendelabarca” – where the girl lived the happy summers of her childhood. “Llendelabarca” is in the care of Aunt Gala, who lives with her daughter-in-law, Pilara, and her grandson Juanito.
Julia’s relationship with the Guardians and with the teacher, Don Orfeo, even with the unfortunate priest of the council, Don Marias, makes it possible, for the first time in a long time, that the young lady of the capital does not feel lonely. But…
