Phil Taylor has called for sensation Leighton Bennett to be contained at Wolverhampton in this year’s Grand Slam of Darts.
By becoming the youngest world champion in January, defeating the Nathan Girvan 3-0 in the Lakeside of Scotland to acquire at the BDO World Youth Championship bennett stormed into the spotlight.
The schoolboy nicknamed’Boom Boom’ has also scooped six of the 10 events and has enjoyed success on the BDO Tour at 2019.
PDC chairman Barry Hearn has advocated Bennett to be included by the BDO among the eight representatives for November occasion and speculation is mounting the 13-year-old is being considered for selection.
The star has risen to 17th on the seasonal BDO standings above the likes of Scott Waites and Martin Adams, also Taylor considers interest would be generated by Bennett addition.
«I am not a huge dart-watcher,» Taylor told Sky Sports.
«Somebody just asked me a question regarding young Leighton Bennett and should he have a wildcard to Wolverhampton?
«My answer was that I do not watch the darts on TV but if Leighton Bennett gets a wildcard I’ll see it since he is exciting. He’s a nightmare to play.»
Taylor retired from aggressive action following the 2018 World Championship, but Bennett has been faced by the world champion twice and he’s experienced mixed fortunes.
‘The Power’ conquered the youngster 10-7 in March at the Tower of London, although Bennett acquired his revenge, beating back the at the SAP Darts Slam at Frankfurt .
«I have played him a couple of times and he is a complete nightmare, since he’s a young lad and he is good,» Taylor added.
«He has no fear in him whatsoever. I really like that in him»
