Champion Golfer of the Year Shane Lowry has become the latest player to join the Most exclusive group of Honorary Life Members of the European Union.
Where held Tommy Fleetwood on the day off to storm into a success lowry was presented with the membership recognition of his Open victory in July, his key title.
Even the Tour champions would be the 56th participant to take up Honorary Life Membership as the system has been released in 1978, following on from Patrick Reed this season being awarded the status.
«It is very cool to receive this award,» Lowry said. «If you start playing golf when you are a child you don’t know how good you can be, or even when you get started playing as a specialist. I didn’t know that I would get for this afternoon, therefore it is quite cool.
«I have obviously joined a nice collection of names, which can be fairly good as well. My heart lies with The European Tour. I’ll stay a part. I enjoy coming back and I enjoy playing in events like this, therefore it’s an intense privilege to receive this.»
The important breakthrough in Royal Portrush of lowry is one of two successes on the European Tour in 2019, with all the Irishman also winning the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship in January.
The award was obtained by the 32-year-old at Wentworth, the season’s Rolex Series event.
«Shane’s incredible victory at Royal Portrush will be remembered as one of the iconic performances from the Championship’s storied history,» Pelley said.
«Shane is a terrific character and I think you once you examine the outstanding reception he appreciated across the island of Ireland in the week following his triumph, along with the warmth and cheer on social networking internationally, which shows you just how popular he’s in the sport. He is also a excellent ambassador for the European Tour, and is hence a truly worthy recipient of this honour.»
